LAPLACE – Riverside made the most of its final tuneup of the season before a much-awaited District 8-2A clash with Newman, the Rebels rolling past Fisher by a score of 63-0.
“We had the attitude this week of ‘Let’s get better,’” said Riverside coach Bill Stubbs. “I thought everyone did exactly what they were asked to do. Deuce (Wallace) was extremely effective passing the ball. I thought we were pretty crisp offensively and defensively.”
Deuce Wallace tossed four touchdown passes to lead the Rebels (5-1, 3-0), completing 11 of 15 passes for 131 yards and no interceptions. Von Julien was his favorite receiver, hauling in five catches for 73 yards and a touchdown.
Hardell Mack led Riverside rushers with 84 yards on seven carries. Kendall Martin rushed for 75 yards on nine carries and DeAndre Wilson gained 68 on eight. Each player ran for a touchdown.
“Each of those guys is showing he can do some damage if we’re able to get them to the second level. They really played well,” said Stubbs.
Wallace got Riverside started with his first touchdown pass of the night, a 18-yard strike to Julien that put RA up 7-0.
Brandon Hymel doubled their lead when he intercepted a pass and returned it to the house for a 22-yard return score.
Each of Riverside’s next three touchdowns came from a yard away as Wilson, McGee, and Mack each found paydirt, McGee on a pass from Wallace. Jake Venus’ 9-yard touchdown reception pushed Riverside to a 42-0 halftime lead.
Wallace hit Peyton Falgoust for an 18-yard score coming out of the half. Jordan Loving tossed his second scoring pass in as many weeks, finding Tyler Gauthier for a 32-yard score. Martin capped the Rebels’ scoring with a 10-yard run.
Riverside forced five turnovers in the game. Jeremiah Berteau, Jacorey Haynes and Jordan Andrews each intercepted passes in addition to Hymel’s pick-six.
