Youth ‘March into Art’

A call goes out to all young artists to enter the 2012 Youth March into Art Show presented by River Region Art Association. Take in for the art is March 1, 2 and 3, noon-4 p.m. each day at the RRAA Art Gumbo Center located at 1835 N. Magnolia Ave., Gonzales. 

There will be two divisions: ages 12-17 and ages 11 and under. Students may compete in three categories – painting, drawing and three-dimensional art. Entry fee is $1 per entry with a limit of three entries per category. This is a judged show with prizes and ribbons. First place – $25, second place – $15, third place – $10 in each category with honorable mention/ribbons. 

 A special Louisiana Art Spirit Award will be presented to the school with the most participants showing spirit for the arts. Last year St. James Parish Gifted School grabbed the Art Spirit award with quite an array of talent presented. Entry forms are online at www.artgumbo.org. Call 225-328-7354 with any questions. 

A fun and free Youth Creativity Day will take place on March 24 from 1-3 p.m. at the RRAA Art Gumbo Center under the trees. There will be several free art activity areas set up for the young people to create art to take home. There will be door prizes and refreshments. Everyone can enjoy browsing the March into Art exhibit inside the gallery. The March into Art awards will be presented following Youth Creativity Day at 3 p.m. Winners of the Youth March into Art will have their art displayed at CC’s Community Coffee in Prairieville on Airline Highway the entire month of April.
