The nationwide search for a Superintendent of St. John Schools took more than five months. The search committee narrowed the field of candidates to four, with one local and three out-of-state applicants.

After numerous interviews by the members of the School Board and some local groups, the School Board chose Dr. Courtney Millet to take over the helm of the public school system.

My hat is off to the School Board who handled the process in a professional manner.

I find it refreshing to see people excel in their chosen profession. Even more satisfying is to see someone who grew up in your neighborhood, went to school with your children, and then, with a passion and enthusiasm, set out to be successful.

Dr. Courtney Millet is one of those people whom I’ve had the privilege of observing as she devoted her life to educating young people.

My involvement with school children throughout the river parishes has given me the opportunity to speak at LaPlace Elementary School on several occasions while she was principal. LaPlace Elementary School was one of the most organized and efficient schools I have ever visited. Dr. Millet is a motivator of teachers, a compassionate role model, an educator of students, and a leader in her profession.

With the support of the community and the cooperation of the School Board, she will prove to be an excellent choice.
