LAPLACE – No identification has been made on the body found floating in the waters by Interstate 55, about five miles north of Peavine Road, but authorities may be getting close.
Maj. Mike Tregre, spokesman for the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office, said several people have called who are missing relatives and friends from the storm and other occurrences.
“One of the caller’s description of the person they are looking for fits the description of the body,” he said. “The problem is we can’t do fingerprints, because of decomposition.”
Tregre said they will have to rely on dental records or DNA to properly identify the body, which could be difficult considering the displacement of dentists and doctors in New Orleans.
The Sheriff’s office was notified Monday around 9:30 a.m., after a passing truck driver noticed the body in the water. Tregre said the man was wearing a white shirt and socks, and had numerous tattoos, one earring and a ring on his left hand.
