Lady Comets battle tough in loss to Hahnville Tigers

LAPLACE — The Hahnville Lady Tigers visited St. Charles Catholic High school and were just able to edge by the Lady Comets by winning the volleyball meet by winning three out of five matches. Comet’s Coach Michelle Dearmitt stated, “We failed to follow through with a few of the basics.”

The first match belonged to the Lady Comets as they jumped out in front quickly gaining a sizable head start that the Lady Tigers weren’t able to rebound from the point deficit. St. Charles 25- Hahnville 19.

In the second match the Lady Comets carried over much of the momentum from the first match. It wasn’t enough however as Hahnville regained their composure tying the score at sixteen points and never looked back. Ashtonte Pryer, Danielle Douglas and Shunta Isaac led the Lady Tigers to win the match 25- 21.

The third match was Hahnville’s turn to carry over their momentum. After tying the score at seven points the Lady Tigers quickly won the third match 25- 19.

Hahnville trying to end the game with a victory and St. Charles trying to force the fifth match and a possible victory, the two teams played a game of tug of war with the scoreboard with neither team having more than a two point lead. Led by Amanda Savoie, Katie Tregre, Gina Monica, and Mary Clement the Lady Comets forced the fifth match by winning 25- 23.

St. Charles was able to obtain an early lead in the fifth match but then fell short and Hahnville was able to outscore the Lady Comets 15- 8 winning the match and winning the game.

St. Charles was led by Amanda Savoie with 15 kills and 23 digs, Katie Tregre with 11 digs, Gina Monica with 2 aces and 11 assists, and Mary Clement with one ace and 16 assists.

The Lady Comets defeated Mandeville last Tuesday and currently are 4-9 on the season.
