LAPLACE — The LaPlace United States Post Office is working toward normalcy, but still asks residents to be patient.

Acting Supervisor Ken Sanders of the LaPlace Branch said magazines and special mail items are starting to come through.

“Magazines were cancelled for a period of time, but now are starting to come back,” he said.

“It is taking the mail some time to get here, because instead of going through New Orleans, it is instead going to Houston, then to Baton Rouge, then to us.”

Sanders said all the mail that was to be delivered during Hurricane Katrina has been retrieved and is going out.

“We deliver everything we get, as we get it,” he said. “Some days the mail is very heavy and others there is hardly anything.”
