CONVENT – Bessie “Mamu” Allen, 102, a native and resident of Convent, died Sept. 19. She was the mother of Easter Marshall McKarry.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law Alfredia Green.

She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 25 great great-grandchildren.

Services were held Sept. 27 at Young Pilgrim Baptist Church, Convent, with interment in Methodist Cemetery, Union.

BARRE

EDGARD – Thelma Rizan Barre, 100, a native of Lockport and a resident of Edgard, died Sept. 27. She was the wife of the late Melvin P. Barre.

She is survived by her children Armella (Hugh) Bergeron and J. Kenneth (Arleen) Barre.

She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Rene and Josephine LeBlanc Rizan and her siblings Henry, Max, Noah, Armand, Fernand, Romain, Milton and Eddie Rizan.

Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard, with interment in the church cemetery.

Millet-Guidry Funeral Home of LaPlace is in charge of arrangements. Visitation begins at 9 a.m. at the church.

ESPER

NORCO – John Joseph Esper Jr., 70, a native of Cleveland, Ohio and a resident of Norco, died Sept. 1. He was the son of the late John J. Sr. and Frances Reynolds Esper.

He is survived by his children Johnna Esper, Mark Esper, Matthew H. Esper, Doreen E. MacDonald and Elaine E. Sinelli.

He is also survived by his siblings Dorothy Ann Gann, David, Lawrence and George Esper, eight grandchildren and friend Pauline Sadoski.

He was preceded in death by his brother James Esper.

Services will be held today at 1 p.m. at H.C. Alexander Funeral Home, Norco.

GREEN

LAPLACE – Monique Green Washington, 31, a native and resident of LaPlace, died Sept. 31. She was the daughter of Betty Jean Tucker.

She is survived by her children Marc Washington, Terrinika Green, Marckeisha Washington and Jerrineisha Washington.

She is also survived by her siblings John Green, Brandon Mason and Tremeka MCGuffy, grandparents Lurlee Alexander Green, Lydia and John Hampton Sr.

She was preceded in death by her sister Sheketia D. Green and her grandfather Manuel Green Sr.

Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at New Vision Missionary Baptist Church, LaPlace, with interment in Montz Memorial Cemetery.

JEFFERY

VACHERIE – Raymond Jeffery, 71, a native and resident of Vacherie, died Sept. 24.

Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at St. Philip Catholic Church, Vacherie, with interment in the church cemetery.

LABLANC

LAPLACE – Louis F. LeBlanc, 87, a native of LaForche Crossing and a resident of LaPlace, died Sept. 26. He was the husband of the late Willie A. LeBlanc.

He is survived by his son Louis R. LeBlanc.

He is also survived by his stepchildren Bettie Shook, Georgia Bigelow, Hilda Warner, Gerry Ragusa and Jesse Smith.

Services were held Sept. 28 at the Millet-Guidry Funeral Home Chapel in LaPlace, with interment in St. John Memorial Cemetery.

MILLER

MT. AIRY – Doris “Tina” Miller, 74, a native of Mt. Airy and a resident of New Orleans, died Sept. 27. She was the daughter of the late Justine and Joseph Martin Sr.

She is survived by her children Bernadine Leon, Anita Johnson and Reginald Brown.

She is also survived by her siblings Lola Bell Pittman, Myrtle Victor, Earline Bowser, Barbara Rogers, Ausbin Martin, Hilton Farlough and Hersey Farlough, grandchildren Leland (Desiree) Leon Sr. and Roland Butler and great-grandchildren Joshua, Leland Jr., Greland Leon, Dominuque, Deanna and Brandon Barqky.

She was preceded in death by her siblings Emma Leon, Vera Ann Leon, Joseph Martin Jr. and Milton Farlough and grandson Reginald Brown.

LAPLACE – Jo-Anne “Jody” Maurin Montz, a native of Reserve and a resident of LaPlace, died Sept. 23. She was the wife of the late Warren “Smokey” Montz.

She is survived by her children Timothy Montz, Jon Graham, April and Kent Campbell, Marsh and Roger Zettlem and Steven and Monica Montz.

She is also survived by her siblings Elaine Delaneuville, Marjorie McTopy and Marie Therese Montz, grandchildren Joshua, Benjamin, Annie Jo, Gabriel Boudreaux, Maria Haysq, John Henry and step-grandchild Katie Campbell.

She was preceded in death by her parents Louis Sr. and Emma LeBrun Maurin.

Services will be held Oct. 4 at 5:30 p.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, Reserve, with interment in the church cemetery.

ROSS

LAPLACE – Norman Bain Ross, 75, a native of Dallas, Texas and a resident of LaPlace, died Sept. 27. He was the husband of the late Shirley Primo Ross.

He is survived by his children Donna R. Duhe, Carrie R. Hays, James Ross and Norman Ross Jr.

He is also survived by his grandchildren Candi, Lacy, Holden, Conner, Haley, Heather, J.J., Tiffany, Jessica and Brady and his great-grandchildren Jade, Diamond, Gabrielle, Chuck and Zoey.

Services were held Sept. 29 at H.C. Alexander Funeral Home, Lutcher, with interment in St. John Memorial Cemetery, LaPlace.

VEDROS

LAPLACE – Anna Lee Vedros Martin, 81, a native of Lutcher and a resident of LaPlace, died Sept. 12. She was the wife of O’Neil Martin and a retired proof reader for the L’Observateur and retired secretary for H. Martin Oil Co.

She is survived by her children Charlotte Petersen and Debbie Martin.

She is also survived by her grandchildren Beth Surmik Fountain and Mark Andrew Surmik, great-grandchildren Amber Englade and Ashley Chenier, siblings Eula V. Lucia and Jamsel “Jimmy” Vedros and godchildren Ellis Lucia, Jackie Bourgeois, Carolyn V. Hyeart and Dennis Arceneaux.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ellis C. and Laura Comeaux Vedros, a grandson Robbie Englade, siblings Doris v. Bernard, Ione V. Bourgeois and Percy Vedros.

Services were held Sept. 16 at St. Joan of Arc Church, LaPlace, with interment in St. John Memorial Gardens, LaPlace.
