Relays highlight Willowdale’s final swim meet of 2005 summer season

LULING-The season may be over, but the coach is happy.

Despite finishing a disappointing sixth in the divisionals this past week, Willowdale Country Club Head Coach Carol Bohnsack said that she was overall pleased with her squad’s performance, particularly in the relays, where they took home multiple 1st place ribbons.

“Our relays did really well,” Bohnsack said. “The younger kids relays really got us going. Our 9-10 year old boys in both the medley and freestyle relay took home first-place finishes, which is very exciting. It was just kind of disappointing that we didn’t have a lot of our older kids to compete in the relays because that would have helped us get a lot of points.

“I’m happy with the way we finished up the season. In our duel meets we finished up with a winning season. I believe that is our first winning season in 3-4 years. That was definitely exciting. It was disappointing that we finished last in the divisionals and we beat three of those teams that finished ahead of us in the duel meets during the season. I was happy for everyone. A lot of kids cut their times and we didn’t have that many disqualifications.”

Perhaps the star of the meet for the Gators as Blaise Wise. Wise finished up with a first place finish in the breast as well as the fly to go along with a trio of 3rd place finishes in the relays and a first place finish in the free relay.
