LADY CATS SET MILESTONES – The East St. John Lady Cats madehistory twice recently.

Junior forward Kinya Lennix became the program’s all-time leading scorer against Thibodaux. Lennix has 1,543 points in her three-year career,surpassing the mark of 1,475 set by Keeshawn Carter.

Head coach Troy Giordano got his 100th career victory with the team when the Lady Cats defeated South Lafourche, 82-47, Friday night. Giordano isnow 100-23 in four years with the team.

MEALEY COMPETES IN SHRINE BOWL – STANFORD, Calif. – FormerDestrehan and LSU running back Rondell Mealey helped the East squad to a 35-21 victory over the West Saturday afternoon in the 75th East-West Shrine Bowl Mealey ran five times for 20 yards and also caught three passes for 32 yards. Michigan’s Marcus Knight was the game’s MVP after catching fourtouchdown passes.

BARBIER HEADING TO DE LA SALLE – NEW ORLEANS – Former Hahnville and Nicholls State head football coach Darren Barbier accepted the head coach’s position at De La Salle High School last week.

Barbier takes over for Gwaine Mathews who was fired after finishing 3-7 in 1999.

Barbier led Hahnville to state championships in 1992 and 1994, compiling a 64-12 record in six seasons. He then went to Nicholls State where hewas named the Division I-AA coach of the year after leading the Colonels to an 8-4 record and a berth in the playoffs.

Barbier spent four years at Nicholls before being named the defensive backs coach at Tulane in 1999. He was let go by the Green Wave after a 3-8 season this past year.
