12 young women competing for St. John Sugar Queen

RESERVE – Twelve young women are vying for the 1999 St. John SugarQueen crown Saturday night.

The pageant begins at 7:30 p.m. at the St. John Theatre.Kara Keller, the reigning St. John Sugar Queen, will relinquish her crownafter a year of activity.

This year’s contestants are: Ashley Jolly, daughter of Jerry and Theresa Jolly of Reserve. She is a1999 graduate of Riverside Academy and plans to attend Southeastern Louisiana University in the fall and study radiology.

Tara Williams, daughter of Leo Williams and Aleta Scharwath.

Brandy Catoire, daughter of Darrell and Deborah Catoire of LaPlace. Sheis a student at St. Charles Catholic High School. Leslie Bailey, daughter of E.J. and Marcelle Bailey of LaPlace. She is agraduate of St. Charles Catholic High School and plans to attend LouisianaState University, majoring in elementary education.

Nicole Scontrino, daughter of Joey and Tammy Scontrino of LaPlace. Sheis a student at St. Charles Catholic High School. Shanna Luminais, daughter of Timmy and Anna Luminais of LaPlace. Sheis a 1999 graduate of Riverside Academy and will enter Southeastern Louisiana University this fall.

Lori Roussel, daughter of Paul “Doona” and Julie Roussel of Reserve. Sheis a graduate of Riverside Academy and a third-year student at Louisiana State University.

Rebecca Vicknair, daughter of Robin and Jane Vicknair of LaPlace. She isa graduate of St. Charles Catholic High School and a third-year student atSoutheastern Louisiana University.

Stephanie Shaffer, daughter of Carl and Anne Shaffer of LaPlace. She is agraduate of St. Charles Catholic High School and a junior at SoutheasternLouisiana University.

Brigitte Gommel, daughter of Bruce and Theresa Gommel of LaPlace. Sheis a 1999 graduate of Riverside Academy and plans to attend McNeese State University in the fall.

Shannon Hinton, daughter of Maurice and Kathleen Hinton of LaPlace. Sheis a 1999 graduate of St. Charles Catholic High School and plans to attendNicholls State University this fall, majoring in nursing.

Jill Jacob, daughter of Wayne and JoAnn Jacob of LaPlace. She is agraduate of St. Charles Catholic High School and hopes to pursue a degreein drafting and design technology.
