School Board Recognizes Athletic Teams

LUTCHER – The achievements of the spring sports schools at St. James andLutcher high schools were recognized at recent St. James Parish SchoolBoard meetings.

At the meeting held on May 12, the Lutcher Lady Bulldog softball team was honored with a resolution congratulating it on winning the Class 3A state championship. At the same meeting, the Bulldog baseball team wascongratulated on finishing the season as the District 10-3A co-champions.

The board at its May 26 meeting recognized the five St. James High Schoolathletes that competed at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s Class 3A state track meet. Honored were the boys’ 4x100relay team of Brian Landry, Chad Smith, Ricky Burdis and Chad Jasmin that placed third in Class 3A; and Shmel Nelson, who placed sixth in the shotput.

The Lutcher tennis team was recognized at the June 9 meeting after winning the River Parishes League championship with a 22-0 record.

Also recognized were the athletes who were named to the All-River Parishes first team and six qualifiers in the Class 3A state tournament as well as the regional champions.

Lutcher High School athletics was also recognized at (See BOARD, Page 2C) that meeting for placing fourth out of 58 schools in the running for the Piccadilly Cup, the LHSAA’s all-sports trophy. Also noted was that 310students from Lutcher participated in at least one sport, with all passing the drug test and 120 attaining at least a 3.0 grade point average.Athletic Directors Rick Gaille of St. James and Tim Detillier and thecoaches, athletes, students, staff, parents and community members of each school were congratulated at the meetings.
