Citizen and Lion of the year honored

LAPLACE – The LaPlace Lions Club recently honored Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Thomas F. Daley as Citizen of the Year and Greg “Za” Maurin of the St. John Sheriff’s Office as Lion of the Year.Dr. Robert Dale, president of the LaPlace Lions, presented the awards to Daley and Maurin.Daley and Maurin, both LaPlace residents, have teamed up on several projects to benefit the St. John Parish community, including their work with the St. John Shade Tree Committee, which offers seedlings free to the public, and the St. John Clean and GreenEach are also involved in the Ring Around the Lake bicycle path development, educational programs at the parish jail, local Special Olympics and the St. John Interagency Council.Daley also teaches religion classes at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and is an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He is married to Margaret Daley and they have two daughters, Bernadette and Monique.Maurin is the Lions social services chairman, past president, chairman for the Lions Region and president of the Home Board. He is a lieutenant with 15 years of experience with the St. John Sheriff’s Office.Maurin is the community relations director for the sheriff. He is married to Shelley Maurin and they have three daughters, Rachael, Carly and Alaney.
