LAPLACE — Cooperation with law enforcement from those in the know has been stingy in the 24 hours since police began investing a fatal Monday night shooting in LaPlace.

St. John the Baptist Parish Mike Tregre identified the victim as 36-year-old Reginald Dropthmore of LaPlace, adding the immediate follow-up has been a struggle.

“No one is cooperating right now,” Tregre said Tuesday afternoon. “We’re pursuing some leads. We’ve been working on it non-stop and we will continue.”

Tregre said detectives are not ready to release a motive for the slaying, adding authorities have little word-of-mouth to make progress on at the moment.

Police began investigating the fatal shooting at approximately 7:45 p.m. Monday when they discovered Dropthmore with multiple gunshot wounds at a residence in the 100 block of West 3rd Street in LaPlace.

The victim was pronounced dead on the scene, Tregre said.

Dropthmore was not a resident of the home he was discovered at, Tregre said, adding detectives are not yet releasing details concerning the location’s residents.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office TIPS line at 985-359-TIPS or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111. Those who call Crimestoppers do not have to testify and may qualify for a cash reward.
