Sports briefs: Riverside advances to regionals

RESERVE — The No. 6 Riverside Rebels cruised to a 12-2 victory over No. 27 North Caddo in the first round of the Class 2A baseball playoffs Tuesday in Reserve.

Starting pitcher Mason Vicknair went 3-fof-3 with two doubles and a triple in the game. He drove in three runs and scored two.

He also pitched four innings, allowing two hits and striking out seven. 

Brandon Morris went 2-for-3 with an RBI double and a home run. Jordan Loving also hit an RBI double .

Vicknair, Loving, Morris and Tyler Gauthier combined for seven of Riverside’s eight hits and six RBIs in the game.

The Rebels advance to the regional round and a best 2-of-3 series against No. 11 Newman this weekend.

ESJ softball receives donation

The Bowles 23 Foundation recently gave the East St. John softball team a donation of $2,500, according to Lady Wildcats coach Lester Jenkins. Todd R. Bowles, head coach of the New York Jets football team, is the founder of the organization. His wife Taneka S. Bowles is the president and Barbara Taylor is the regional director.

Dinvaut Golf Tournament coming up

The Rudulph G. Dinvaut Athletic Association will hold its 12th annual golf tournament to benefit West St. John athletics May 13 at Belle Terre Country Club in LaPlace. The cost is $125 per player and $500 per foursome. Hole sponsorships are available.
