LAPLACE — A LaPlace man was shot and killed this morning in his home, authorities said.

St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre said deputies found a 39-year-old male victim with an apparent gunshot wound in his residence at 4:32 a.m. today after responding to the 400 block of Orange Loop in LaPlace following a shooting report.

Tregre did not immediately release the name of the victim, who was transported by emergency medical services to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injury. No one else was injured.

According to authorities, two perpetrators knocked at the door of the victim’s residence.

“The victim opened the door and an argument ensued in the residence,” Tregre said. “The victim was shot, and the perpetrators fled the residence.

“It is very early in the investigation. More information will be made available when it is warranted. This is the third homicide in St. John the Baptist Parish this year.”

Anyone with information regarding the killing is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office TIPS line at 985-359-TIPS or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111. Residents who call Crimestoppers do not have to testify and may qualify for a cash reward.
