SCC swim team makes waves

NEW ORLEANS — The St. Charles Catholic High School swim team is making waves this season with the girls’ and boys’ teams taking home first place out of 11 schools competing in the Metro New Orleans High School Swim League Cluster Sept. 19 at the University of New Orleans.

The SCC girls’ team final score was 440 points, more than 60 points higher than the second place finisher. The boys’ score of 383 was more than 100 points higher than the second place finisher in their category.

The girls’ individual scores helped secure them a first-place win.

In the 50-yard freestyle, SCC senior Jeanne Roussel came in second with a final time of 27.65 minutes. Sophomore Zoe Zaidain took home fourth at 28.31 minutes.

Zaidain came in fifth and Roussel took sixth in the 100-yard freestyle with 1:04.46 and 1:04.94 respectively.

The 200-yard freestyle had sophomore Grace Richoux taking third with a final time of 2:13.07.

SCC’s highest placing girl in the 500-yard freestyle was Freshman Brooke LaBorde with 7:16.30.

Freshman Kelsie Williams took home second in the 100-yard backstroke with Kelly Campbell placing fourth.

SCC sophomore Breigh Peytavin placed third in the 100-yard.

Richoux took home first in the 100-yard butterfly and Sympson placed sixth.

SCC girls placed second in the 200-yard freestyle relay with Roussel, Richoux, Nobile and Laurent and placed third in the 400-yard freestyle relay with Richoux, Williams, Zaidain and freshman Kirsten Tassin.

The girls also placed third in the 200-yard medley relay with Williams, Nobile, Roussel and Zaidain.

The St. Charles Catholic boys held their own, also placing well at the event.

SCC senior Daniel Jaubert took fourth in the 100-yard freestyle with 56.77 minutes.

Senior Jordan St. Pierre came in first in the 200-yard freestyle with junior Alex Miller in third and Jaubert placing fourth.

SCC boys owned the 500-yard freestyle with St. Pierre taking first and Collin Cedatol taking third.

Alex Noel and Alex Miller placed second and third in the 100-yard backstroke.

Noel placed second in the 100-yard butterfly.

The SCC boys placed first in the 400-yard freestyle relay and second in the 200-yard medley relay with Miller, Noel, Jaubert and St. Pierre.

St. Charles Catholic swim coach Michelle Jensen said she was happy with the outcome of the cluster. The team is now preparing for the state swim meet held during Thanksgiving week.

 

Riverside Academy

 

The Riverside Academy swim team also competed in the New Orleans High School Swim League Cluster.

The girls’ team placed seventh overall and the boys’ took home ninth.

RA Freshman Maegan Hymel placed fifth in the girls’ 50-yard freestyle.

Junior Colton Duhon took home fifth place in the boys’ 50-yard freestyle and sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke.
