Summer Food Service Program will begin June 3 in St. Charles Parish

School-aged children and adults with special needs who attend a state-accredited school can enjoy free lunch and activities through this year’s Summer Food Service Program from June 3 through July 11.

Coordinated by the Department of Community Services and the St. Charles Parish School Board, the program will take place at Luling Elementary School (904 Sugarhouse Road) and Ethel Schoeffner Elementary School (140 Plantation Road, Destrehan) on Mondays through Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

The program will be closed on June 19 and July 4 for holidays. Bus transportation to both sites will be provided, but parents may bring their children to either site if they wish.

There is no registration or fee to participate in the Summer Food Service Program. Sponsored by the United Way of St. Charles, the Summer Food Service Program has provided free lunch and activities to residents for 34 years. Last year, the Department of Community Services served 3,121 meals.

For more information about the Summer Food Service Program, call the Department of Community Services at 985- 331-3022 or 985-764-7944.
