Lutcher man arrested with more than 5 pounds of crystal meth in vehicle

On Wednesday, April 3, at about 8:50 a.m., detectives with the Lake Charles Police Combined Anti-Drug Task Force Criminal Patrol Unit conducted a traffic stop on a 2023 Chevrolet Malibu traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 near mile marker 37, for a traffic violation.

Detectives identified the driver as 27-year-old Jermaine Lewis of Lutcher. During the traffic stop,
detectives observed signs of in transit criminal activity. Detectives requested consent to search the vehicle at which time Lewis refused. Detectives utilized K9 Waldo to conduct a free air sniff around the vehicle.

K9 Waldo responded to the odor of narcotics being present within the vehicle. Detectives conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle locating 55 plastic and tape wrapped tubes of Crystal Methamphetamine weighing a total of about 5.5 pounds, with an approximate street value of $22,000.

Lewis was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. He is charged with Possession
of CDS II with Intent to Distribute. Judge Tony Fazzio set Lewis’ Bond at $1,000,000.

The Combined Anti-Drug Task Force is a collaborative effort, comprised of law enforcement officials from local, state and federal agencies, aimed at ceasing the trafficking of illegal substances in Calcasieu Parish.
