LAPLACE — The St. John Parish Sugar Queen committee is seeking contestants for this year’s St. John Parish Sugar Queen Pageant and will host an informational meeting for anyone interested or wanting more information at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Fatty’s Restaurant in LaPlace.

This year marks the 67th year of the pageant, which is themed “Sweet Southern Nights.”

The pageant will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 8 at St. John Theatre in Reserve.

Organizers said the Sugar Pageant helps promote a great deal of pride in the parish, and the Queens have always been outstanding ambassadors who showcase the spirit of St. John Parish in statewide competitions and community events.

A Teen Pageant will be held this year on the same night. Contestants must be between the ages of 15 and 17 for the Teen category and 18 and 22 for the Miss category, as well as live in St. John the Baptist Parish.

Contestants will compete in an interview the morning of the pageant. An introduction and evening wear competition will take place later that night on the stage.

Saige Brady, the 66th St. John Parish Sugar Queen, will bid farewell and crown the new pageant queens at the contest. If interested in competing, contact Maria Stelly at 985-210-9153, Chrissy Cifuentes at ccarter@riversideacademy.com or Baba Oncale at 504-415-3388 or pick up an application at Formal Connection on Belle Terre Boulevard in LaPlace.
