COVID-19 financial relief available to local families

LAPLACE — Thanks to a generous donation of $42,000 from Nalco Champion – an Ecolab Company, $500 grants are available to St. John the Baptist Parish residents who have experienced financial crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Locals can download an application at http://sjbparish.com/pdfs/RECOVERY_FINAL.pdf and submit the completed application to althea.bordelon@yahoo.com for consideration.

Applicants must not have been previously awarded a St. John United Way COVID-19 Relief Fund Grant.

Household income must be at or below $61,000 to qualify, and the applicant must have worked in Louisiana between Feb. 1 and the date of application.

A copy of the applicant’s 2018 or 2019 1040/1040EZ Federal Tax Return and proof of residence in St. John Parish are required for submission. Proof of residence may include a Louisiana driver’s license, a Real ID, a copy of a utility bill or a lease/mortgage statement.

Applicants must also provide a paystub with their employer’s name and days worked between the date of the application, or a COVID-19 separation letter from an employer.

Applicants will be notified by phone to set an in-person appointment. Documentation can be turned in at this time. The St. John Recovery Group will review applications, and recipients will be notified of the award by phone.
