RESERVE — “Please join us as we honor our Flag,” organizers say, for a flag retirement ceremony this month at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Home.

Community members are invited to join local Scouts and Veterans organizations at 10 a.m. March 30 at the Veterans Home, 4080 W. Airline Highway in Reserve.

The ceremony takes place a day after National Vietnam War Veterans Day, and organizers are seeking Vietnam War Veterans, in particular, to attend and be honored.

Eagle Scout Julian Bordelon retires a flag in the proper fashion by placing it in a burn barrel.

Benny Robichaux, of American Legion Post 383, said he is also asking any Veterans, whether affiliated with a Veterans group or not, to attend the March 30 ceremony.

The event is offered as a community service, and there is no cost.

Those seeking more information or who are interested in properly disposing of their United States of America flags are asked to call Robichaux at 504-487-0001.

Members of Scout Troop 406 will help facilitate the flag retirements, which include respectful ceremonial burning.
