School officials said there would be several activities planned in the Spring to honor Cupit.

In a letter the to the SCC community Thursday, Cupit said 30 years ago he was happily serving as principal of LaPlace Elementary when an opportunity to practice his profession and faith at the same location presented itself.

“After much prayer and discernment, I applied for the principalship of St. Charles Catholic and was awarded the position to serve as its spiritual and educational leader in July 1989,” Cupit said. “Now, after a total of 50 years in education, I hear the Lord calling me to step aside and turn all of my attention to my role as a husband, father of seven and grandfather of eleven (soon to be 12) grandchildren. Therefore, I will be retiring at the end of this school year in June 2019.

“I truly thank our Lord for leading me to this privilege of serving as SCC principal for 30 years.”
