RESERVE, La. – A tragic incident unfolded on the afternoon of Friday, February 23, when a collision between a Kia Soul and a school bus resulted in the death of 67-year-old Beverly Creecy from Reserve. Louisiana State Police Troop B were dispatched to the scene on LA 44 at the LA 3179 intersection shortly after 3:00 pm.

Beverly Creecy was navigating her 2021 Kia Soul eastward on LA 44 as Erica Fisher, 39, of Laplace, maneuvered a 2016 Thomas Saf-T-Liner school bus onto the same road from LA 3179, heading west. In an unfortunate turn of events, the school bus veered into the eastbound lane during the turn, leading to a direct collision with Creecy’s vehicle.

Despite being securely fastened, Creecy sustained grave injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she later passed away. Fisher, who also followed safety measures, incurred minor injuries and received medical attention. The crash affected no passengers among the 28 juveniles aboard the school bus.

Authorities are conducting a detailed investigation into the cause of the crash, including analysis of toxicology reports from both drivers. This incident serves as a somber reminder from Troopers about the critical importance of maintaining focus while driving, as lapses can have devastating outcomes. They emphasize the effectiveness of basic safety practices, such as seatbelt use, adherence to traffic regulations, and cautious driving, in preventing accidents.
