St. James Parish Council to Unveil Community Initiatives in Upcoming Meeting

CONVENT, La. – The St. James Parish Council is set to convene Tuesday, February 21, 2024, in a session poised to introduce and deliberate on a slate of legislative proposals and community-focused updates. Key items on the agenda include Proposed Ordinance 24-01, aimed at amending governance structures and council compensation, alongside ordinances adjusting water and natural gas rates to reflect the council’s commitment to sustainable utility management.

The council will also review annual reports from the Parish Recreation Department and the River Parishes Tourist Commission, spotlighting efforts to enhance local recreation and tourism. Infrastructure and community well-being are also in the spotlight through discussions on a comprehensive drainage study, a multi-purpose building project, and resolutions promoting public health awareness for March 2024.

Technological upgrades and infrastructure investments are on the docket, with a contract for utility billing software and a park restroom building project. Additionally, a community benefits agreement with DG Fuels Louisiana LLC and the appointment of a new Registrar of Voters are anticipated.
