The Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) released 2023 performance scores for the state’s public schools and systems on Nov. 13. According to the performance scores, St. John the Baptist Parish Public Schools students have secured a position in the top 10 across the state for improvement.

Louisiana’s 2023 statewide school performance score improved 1.4 points to 78.5. These results come one year after the state matched its pre-pandemic score of 77.1.

“Louisiana has faced unprecedented disruptions over the past few years and these scores are a testament to the efforts of so many people across our state,” said State Superintendent of Louisiana Dr. Cade Brumley. “I’m pleased to see our statewide performance score surpass pre-pandemic levels and clearly recognize work remains to accelerate future academic outcomes for students.”

Among these reports, it was also announced that Lake Pontchartrain and West St. John Elementary Schools were recognized as LDOE Top Gain schools in St. John the Baptist Parish. The “Top Gain” designation is awarded to schools that demonstrate excellence in student progress from one year to the next.

“As the interim superintendent, I am immensely proud to announce that Lake Pontchartrain and West St. John Elementary schools have achieved recognition as LDOE Top Gain schools in St. John Parish,” said Interim St. John the Baptist Interim Superintendent of Schools Kendria Spears.

Spears attributes the success of the students in St. John to the commitment of teachers, support staff, principals and central office leaders.

“This remarkable accomplishment reflects our unwavering dedication to Elevating Excellence in education,” said Spears. “Together, we celebrate the hard work and commitment of our schools, showcasing the transformative power of quality education in our community.”

Performance data for schools and school systems is available now on the LDOE website.
