Guilty Pleas – St. James, Ascension, Assumption

During the week of August 21 – August 25, 2023, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

 

Ascension Parish:

 

  1. An Ascension Parish Jury found 29-year-old Joshua Stephens of 39150 LA 929 Prairieville, LA, guilty of 2nd Degree Murder, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Aggravated Criminal Damage to property. Sentencing is tentatively set for 12/12/23.

 

The above case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Phil Maples, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Cody Martin.

 

Assumption Parish:

 

  1. Aline Joseph, 173 Frank Lane Belle Rose, LA, age 37, pled guilty to Simple Arson and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. It was ordered that 1 year of the said sentence is to be served, and the remaining 2 years are to be suspended. Upon release from incarceration, the defendant is to be placed on 3 years supervised probation.

 

  1. Angela Morrison, 13247 Palm St. Vacherie, LA, age 47, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 18 months supervised probation.

 

  1. Lance Cheramie, 345 East 40th Cut-Off, LA, age 38, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.

 

  1. Isaac Fuhrer, 160 Bayou Boeuf Rd. Morgan City, LA, age 21, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentence to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 18 months supervised probation.

 

  1. Tal Gaudet, 720 Belle River Rd. Pierre Part, LA, age 34, pled guilty to Pornography Involving Juveniles and was sentenced to 20 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. Upon release, the defendant must register and notify as a sex offender or child predator for a period of 25 years.

 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Thomas Daigle, and presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Cody Martin.

 

St. James Parish:

 

  1. Sheila Williams, 10237 Palm Dr. Vacherie, LA, age 53, pled guilty to Manslaughter and was sentenced to 30 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.

 

  1. Jared Chauvin, 312 Tamia Ave. Gramercy, LA, age 35, pled guilty to Attempted Burglary (3 Counts) and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation.

 

  1. Dan Jones, 1218 Old Vacherie Rd. Vacherie, LA, age 51, pled guilty to DWI 3rd Sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation.

 

  1. Tori Morris, 1306 N Ezidore St. Gramercy, LA, age 24, pled guilty to Illegal Possession of Stolen Things and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation.

 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Bruce Mohon, and presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Jason Verdigets.


During the week of August 28 – September 1, 2023, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, parishes of Assumption and St. James. Ascension Parish had no court news to report this week.

Assumption Parish:

  1. Jennifer Diaz, Williams Ave. Jefferson, LA, age 33, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 18 months supervised probation.
  1. Lance Gaspard, 118 Sycamore St. Labadieville, LA, age 19, pled guilty to Unauthorized Entry of an Inhabited Dwelling and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation.
  1. Todd Landry, 146 Ben St. Pierre Part, LA, age 55, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Dangerous Substance (2 counts). The defendant was sentenced to 24 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 24 months supervised probation.
  1. Cairon LeBlanc, 2034 S Robert Ave Gonzales, LA, age 24, pled guilty to Bank Fraud and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation.
  1. Willie Hawkins Jr., 108 Matthew St. Paincourtville, LA, age 59, pled guilty to Simple Burglary (2 counts) and was sentenced to 10 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.

St. James Parish:

  1. Randell Dennis, 7171 Edwards Rd. St. James, LA, age 29, pled guilty to Aggravated Battery, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Obscenity. The defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
