St. James Sheriff’s Office announces arrest of 3 drug suspects

On August 29, 2023, the St. James Sheriff’s Office executed search warrants and arrest warrants that were the result of a prolonged investigation by the Narcotics Division. The investigation targeted individuals who were believed to be mid-level drug traffickers of heroin, crystal methamphetamine, and marijuana. The search and arrest warrants were served on two separate residences located at 2385 Texas Street and 1430/1432 Third Street in Lutcher.
Arrested at the Texas Street location was Darrin A. Schaubhut white male, 55 years of age, Lutcher, LA and Lowell Roussel, III, white male, 46 years of age, Laplace, LA. Schaubhut was charged with: LA RS 40:967A(1) Distribution of methamphetamine (2 counts); LA RS 40:967C(2) Possession of Clonzaepam (1 count); LA RS 40:1023 Possession or distribution of drug paraphernalia (1 count); and LA RS 14:95.1 Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Roussel was charged with: LA RS 40:967(C)1 Possession of methamphetamine and LA RS 40:1023 Possession or distribution of drug paraphernalia.
Arrested at the Third Street location was Jason Joseph Malbrough, white male, 42 years of age, Lutcher, LA. Malbrough was charged with: LA RS 40:966A(1) Distribution of Heroin (1 count); LA RS 40:967A(1) Distribution of methamphetamine; and LA RS 40:966E(1) Possession of marijuana.
All subjects are currently being held at the St. James Parish Jail in Convent. Bond has not been set.
