Allen “Tricky Ricky” Volion, 65, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, August 18, 2023. The youngest of 9 children, he was a lifetime resident of Garyville. He enjoyed cooking and gathering with family, often making rabbit. Upon hearing that a relative was coming to visit from out of state, he commented that he was going to make them some real food. Another time, he laughed about unsuccessfully trying to teach his brother to cook.
A charming man, Ricky liked socializing and always wanted to know what was going on in the community and with the people he knew. He was known to share a cold drink and stories with colorful phrasing that showed his sense of humor, which included a smile that was dazzling and could light up a room. With an interest in history, he could tell tales not only about his family but also of Garyville and a time that is no more.
Always a strong man, he fought personal battles including cancer. He was a survivor, but through it all he was a kind man. He loved his family and called his siblings almost daily. He was always there to lend a helping hand and one of his proudest achievements was being a volunteer fireman for St. John Parish.
He is preceded in death by his parents Thomas Sr. and Frazine Moran Volion; sisters Shirley Borne, Jennette Perry and Ernestine Lambert; brothers Thomas Volion, Jr, and Albert “Spot” Volion; and sisters and brothers-in-law Hope Volion, Kathleen Volion, Leo Lambert and Rick Meche.
A devoted man, he is survived by his wife and companion, Pauline Robertson, who was his life and took care of him for many years. She looked after him during his illnesses, always made sure he took care of himself and had quality of life. He is also survived by his treasured son Aaron Volion, sisters Margaret Volion and Rita Meche and brother Norman “Butch” Volion, in addition to several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Ricky’s name to the American Cancer Society.
