Trial approaching for impaired driver accused of killing 3 local teens

THIBODAUX — A man accused of killing three Nicholls State University students while driving impaired on November 20, 2021 will go on trial at 12:30 p.m. Monday, August 21 at the Lafourche Parish Courthouse in Thibodaux.

Joey Clement faces vehicular homicide and DWI charges for the deaths of first-year nursing students Michaila Bowling, 18, Lily Dufrene, 19, and allied health sciences student Hali Coss, 18. The young women were recent graduates of Hahnville High School in St. Charles Parish. They were on their way home from a dinner celebrating Dufrene’s birthday at the time the crash occurred.

If convicted, Clement faces up to 120 years in prison.

Prosecutors are DA Kristine Russell and ADAs Shaun George and Jason Chatagneir. Clement is being defended by George Ledet Jr.
