BATON ROUGE — As the October 14 Gubernatorial Primary Election approaches, Louisiana Public Broadcasting is committed to providing voters with the information they need to make an informed choice when they go to the polls. LPB coverage, THE WAY FORWARD: ELECTION 2023, will include a gubernatorial debate, in-depth coverage of the big issues, and the series “Coffee With The Candidates” which begins this Friday, August 18 during the weekly LPB broadcast of LOUISIANA: THE STATE WE’RE IN, airing every Friday at 7 p.m.
Each week, LPB’s Karen LeBlanc sits with a different candidate over a cup of coffee to discuss the issues important to voters. “It’s an informal and authentic way to get to know the candidates,” says LeBlanc. “We’re doing this series at Frank’s Restaurant in Baton Rouge, a place where you are sure to find Louisianans talking politics over a cup of coffee on a daily basis!”
LPB has partnered with the “RESET Louisiana’s Future” initiative spearheaded by the Public Affairs Research Council (PAR) and The Council for a Better Louisiana (CABL). The initiative includes 55 non-partisan recommendations to help voters make informed decisions, with an emphasis on tax policy, infrastructure, education, and public safety. All candidates chosen for participation in LPB coverage had to meet polling and monetary criteria determined in partnership with CABL. LPB and CABL will also be co-hosting a live, statewide debate on Thursday, September 28 at 7:00pm.
“Separating fact from fiction can be difficult these days, that’s why it’s important that voters hear for themselves where the candidates stand on the issues,” says Clarence “C.C” Copeland, LPB President and CEO. “LPB has a long-standing tradition of providing viewers with opportunities to hear information first-hand and educate themselves. We hope to continue our mission to be a trusted source for Louisiana.”
Along with the broadcast, viewers can also stream all LPB election coverage on LPB’s YouTube channel under “The Way Forward: Election 2023” playlist.
