The St. John Sheriff’s Office worked with Louisiana State Police Troop C during a vehicle pursuit that shut down Interstate 10 eastbound near the weigh scales as well as the Belle Terre exit eastbound for a short time on August 14, 2023.
Troop C initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle driving recklessly on Interstate 10 in St. James Parish, but the driver, identified as Parker Pierce, 20, of New Orleans, refused to stop.
St. John deputies spiked the tires on the vehicle as it entered St. John Parish about 3:30 p.m., Pierce came to a stop on Interstate 10 near the Belle Terre exit, and refused to exit the vehicle.
SJSO SWAT and crisis negotiators arrived on scene and talked to Pierce for about 15 minutes to de-escalate the situation for a peaceful surrender. Pierce exited the vehicle and was taken into custody without further incident.
Louisiana State Police charged Pierce with reckless operation of a vehicle (misd) and resisting an officer by flight (misd). He also was wanted on a fugitive warrant for St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office.
