ORLANDO — The SELA Warriors Elite National team placed third in the International championship last weekend in Orlando, Florida, at the Wide World of Sports at ESPN.

This team has been together for two years, made up of highly motivated young men from both sides of the River Parishes. In the last two years, their cumulative record is 25 wins and five losses with a second place finish in Dalton, Georgia at the YBOA championship in 2022.

Coach Randall Campbell spoke about the great play and high character of his team. “These teams played teams from Florida, Puerto Rico, Maryland, and Texas as well,” he said.

Current members of the East St. John High School basketball team were extraordinary contributors to the team’s victories. Jermaine Mangle, a junior guard, played extremely well on defense to lift his team to that finish. Jerry Phillips was a contributing factor on defense as well. Kyron Conley played a huge role, making big shots throughout the tournament.  Ma’chai Johnson was the leader of the group, averaging 14 points in five of the team’s final games. Other contributing factors in this tournament were Waun Snyder and Demico Mizique.

“All of these East St. John athletes paid the price and deserve everything that comes their way,” said Coach

Campbell. “The future is bright for these young men and The ‘E’ boys’ basketball.”
