The Rotary Club of LaPlace recently awarded two scholarships in memory of influential Rotarians.

West St. John’s Class of 2023 valedictorian Skylar Edwards received the Beverly Harris Memorial Scholarship. Harris was a Rotary Club of LaPlace past president, board member, and community educator. Like Harris, Edwards exemplifies the motto “service above self.”

Edwards was also named the 12^th grade Student of the Year and received several scholarships from community groups, including the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Association and St. John Parish 4-H.

Recent graduate Cyrel Rodrigazo received the Allene Gregoire Memorial Scholarship, named in honor of another longtime educator, Rotarian and community leader. Rodrigazo has been involved in numerous extracurricular groups, including East St. John’s Interact Club and chess club. He recently received a scholarship from the American Legion Auxiliary.
