St. James Sheriff’s Office investigates Vacherie shooting

On July 7, 2023, the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office was notified of a shooting that occurred in the parking lot of the Westbank Reception Center, in Vacherie, while a repast was going on. A 5 year old was hit and transported to an area hospital for treatment.
The vehicle attached to this post has been identified as being involved in the shooting. The vehicle left out of the parking lot, got back on Hwy 18, turned down Collins Street and was abandoned in the trees located in the rear of Collins Street, in Vacherie. Detectives were able to determine that the vehicle was in the parking lot at the Westbank Reception Center for an hour before the shooting.
The Sheriff’s Office is seeking any information that may assist Detectives in arresting the subjects involved in this shooting.
