Congressman John Lewis was right when he said, “We have to redeem the soul of America.” What is happening is a threat to our democracy and sometimes it is feared that we are in the process of losing it. We hear that our students are capable and as smart as other students in the country and in other parishes.

The state ranking for education is at the bottom and the performance for the Parish is very low with change after change by administrators that show very little improvement. With crisis after crisis in our state and district today it is at a point when we have shared –Thread the needle and reforms others can learn from–yet, we remain a state and district at the bottom.
We must never lose hope and keep the faith, building and working hard to create what Dr. King and others called the “Beloved Community.” We have to redeem the soul of America today to be more successful together because ‘We Are Better Together.’

Freedom by Langston Hughes
Freedom will not come
Today, this year
Not ever
Through compromise and fear.
I have as much right
As the other fellow has
To stand
On my two feet
And own the land.
I tire so of hearing people say,
Let things take their course.
Tomorrow is another day.
I do not need my freedom when I’m dead.
I cannot live on tomorrow’s bread.
Freedom
Is a strong seed
Planted
In a great need.
I live here, too.
I want my freedom
Just as you.

Remember  Galatians 5:1
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.
Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be
burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

There will be a St. John the Baptist Parish School Board meeting at West St. John Elementary School located at 2555 Louisiana Hwy. 18 in Edgard on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at 6 p.m.- hope to see you there!
