Hammond, LA – The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect of medication theft.

Chief Jimmy Travis says on May 21, 2023, a female conned her way into receiving a refund on merchandise she previously stole from the Dollar General on Wardline Road. The female stole an armful of medication from one Dollar General and attempted to obtain a refund from a different Dollar General location. When she was refused by the cashier, she relocated to a third Dollar General and conned the clerk into the refund.

“In retail, it’s always a best practice to require a receipt for refunds, returns, or exchanges.  More importantly, clerks should always be on the lookout for the everyday con artist,” says Chief Travis. A con artist is a person who cheats or tricks others by persuading them to believe something that is not true. Unfortunately, most of them are good at what they do.
Spotting a con artist can be tricky, but there are several tips you can keep in mind to stay alert:
1. Pay attention to their stories and ask yourself if the details add up. A con artist will often have trouble keeping their tall tales consistent.
2. A con artist doesn’t say much about themselves, but when they do, it all seems too good to be true.
3. They’re incredibly well-dressed and charming. Con artists know that they’re going to be more likely to trick someone if they look wealthy, clean, and impressive.

The suspect in this case is described as a black female with long black hair, and is seen in the video surveillance image wearing a maroon shirt and black plants.

Chief Travis asks anyone with information regarding the identity of the female to call Detective Earl McFarland at 985-902-2043, OR Crime Stoppers if you wish to remain anonymous.
