On March 28, 2023, Jacob Babin of 14122 Poes Rd. Gonzales, LA, age 40, pled guilty to 2nd Degree Rape. Babin was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Phil Maples, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Cody Martin.

On September 30, 2017, Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Detectives responded to a reported sexual assault of a minor child. Detectives interviewed two other children who witnessed the assault. All three children participated in forensic interviews. During a series of interviews with detectives, Babin initially denied the allegations, however, eventually confessed to detectives. Detectives applied for and were granted a warrant for the arrest of Babin who was taken into custody and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.

Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charge, sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. On June 27, 2023, Jacob Babin was sentenced to 25 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. The said sentence is to be served without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence. Upon release from incarceration, Babin will be required to register and notify as a sex offender or child predator.
