HAHNVILLE – The St. Charles Parish Department of Wastewater is excited to announce the completion of upgrades to the Luling Oxidation Pond. Parish officials gathered on June 7 to celebrate the improvements and tour the wastewater treatment site on Texaco Road in Luling.

“Investments in critical infrastructure have been a priority of my administration. This project will increase the Luling Oxidation Pond’s efficiency, operations and environmental sustainability.” President Matthew Jewell said.

Major project features include rehabilitation of the ponds, pump automation with bar screens for debris removal, backup generators, and other items that will allow the systems to remain compliant with LA Department of Environmental Quality regulations. In the future, telemetry will be installed to allow remote monitoring of the ponds around the clock. The Luling Oxidation Pond Improvements were designed by McKim & Creed, and constructed by BLD Services, LLC, with a total project cost of $7,397,553.75. These are the first major improvements to the pond since 1993.

The West Bank sewer system processes approximately 800,000 gallons of sewerage daily during low rain periods. Recently the department completed the first two phases of the sewer master plan, which included identifying and fixing areas of INI (inflow and infiltration). Wastewater is currently working on using the data from the first two phases of planning to develop future improvements for the system to expand capacity and functionality.
