GARYVILLE — A new airnasium, basketball court and lighting are among the additions to the new and improved Ezekiel Jackson Park in Garyville.

Joined by local residents, Parish President Jaclyn Hotard, Sheriff Mike Tregre, Assessor Lucien Gauff and Parish Council representatives were the first to take a few practice shots on the new basketball court following a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 7.

“This improved park not only provides an enhanced recreational outlet for youth but also a beautiful space for the entire community to enjoy,” Hotard said. “Thank you to all of agencies involved in this successful project and the residents who joined us for the ribbon cutting. We look forward to more projects and beautification efforts in this area.”

Officials broke ground on the project in September 2022. A certificate of substantial completion was executed during the May 23 Parish Council meeting.

Improvements at the Ezekiel Jackson Park complement facility upgrades that have taken place parish-wide.

“We already have airnasiums in Reserve and on the West Bank, so this is a great addition in Garyville. It is already being used by the kids, as are the other two airnasiums,” Hotard said.

Other improvements have included the recent installation of turf field at REGALA Park. Additionally, St. John Parish officials will soon break ground on a Multipurpose facility on the West Bank that will become an asset to St. John Parish Parks and Recreation. The new multipurpose facility will be located near the Juan Anthony Joseph Park in Edgard.

Registration for a summer speed and agility camp, dance and cheer camps, and flag football is currently underway. For more information, visit the Parks and Recreation page at sjbparish.gov.
