On June 1, 2023, an Assumption Parish Jury found 26-year-old Seth Savoie of 107 Honey Lane Bayou L’Ourse, LA., guilty of First-Degree Rape. Savoie was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Thomas Daigle, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Jason Verdigets.

On August 18, 2019, Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Detectives received a complaint indicating that a 10-year-old juvenile female disclosed that she had been sexually abused. Detectives responded and a forensic interview of the child was set up and conducted at an area Children’s Advocacy Center. During the interview, the juvenile gave a detailed account of being sexually assaulted by Seth Savoie. Detectives learned that the abuse had been occurring since the child was 9 years old. Detectives made numerus attempts to make contact with Seth Savoie, who was 24 years of age at the time, but were unsuccessful. Detectives were successful in gathering enough evidence for the District Attorney’s Office to present before a grand jury.

On November 6, 2020, an Assumption Parish Grand Jury returned a True Bill of Indictment for Seth Savoie on the charge of First-Degree Rape. Savoie was subsequently apprehended and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center.

Upon the jury rendering a guilty verdict in this matter after less than an hour of deliberating, formal sentencing was set for August 30, 2023. It should be noted that the charge of First-Degree Rape carries a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.
