LAPLACE — Belle Terre Country Club’s iconic golf course is swinging back into action this summer. The greens are projected to reopen June 1 following an extended closure from Hurricane Ida.

When Hurricane Ida entered the Gulf of Mexico in late August 2021, Belle Terre Country Club was weeks away from finalizing the installation of new paspalum greens sturdy enough to withstand a variety of weather conditions. A direct hit from the category four storm changed everything and left more than 160 trees down across the course.

Belle Terre Country Club event coordinator Semi Wadhwa said the arduous clean-up process is finally coming to an end, and a great superintendent is working diligently to get the greens ready for opening day.

Belle Terre’s 18-hole championship course was designed by Pete Dye, a legendary architect in the golf world who had a hand in creating countless courses across the United States and beyond.

“Belle Terre has been an icon in the River Parishes. You can play this course 10 times, and it feels different every time you play it,” Wadhwa said. “It has been home to PGA qualifying events because of its dynamic layout. It’s always been a very coveted, sought-after course, and what we’re trying to do is bring it back to its original glory.”

Membership to the country club is not required to play on the semi-private course, according to Wadhwa. Belle Terre Country Club also offers a fully-equipped golf shop on site with rental clubs, apparel and other merchandise.

Updates on the official reopening and course hours will be shared online at www.belleterregolf.com in the upcoming weeks.

As work has been underway on the greens, the Belle Terre Country Club staff has been hard at work making sure all aspects of the facility are up to par. The building at 111 Fairway Drive has received a new roof, interior repairs, and updates to the façade including new plywood.

Belle Terre has continued to offer event rental space for all occasions and life celebrations, from business meetings to repasses, graduations, bridal showers, baby showers and weddings. Wadhwa said the panoramic views of the golf course create a beautiful ambiance.

“Everything is totally customized for our clients. We take the work out of it so you can enjoy your day, your way,” she said. “We pride ourselves on Southern hospitality. To us, customer service is everything when running a business.”
