BATON ROUGE — The Louisiana Department of Health’s Louisiana Emergency Medical Services for Children presented members of the Acadian Ambulance Service New Orleans region with the EMS for Children Kid’s Krewe of the Year Award. The award was presented on EMS for Children’s Day, Wednesday May 24, at the Louisiana State Capitol Press Room in Baton Rouge.
The award is granted to an EMS crew who has displayed outstanding care for a child in an emergency medical or trauma event, demonstrated exceptional effort in the development of pediatric training or quality improvement programs, or for being instrumental in planning and conducting creative injury prevention programs.
The Acadian Ambulance Service New Orleans region is being recognized as a pediatric champion for its immediate lifesaving actions after an unexpected unresponsive child was brought to their facility door. The team’s swift response to the immediate need for pediatric skills resulted in a successful resuscitation of the child on scene, prior to arrival at a pediatric hospital.
LDH staff presenting the award included LDH Office of Public Health Assistant Secretary Doris Brown; Cindy Duplessis, NRP, EMSC manager, Bureau of Family Health, Office of Public Health; and Toni Gross, MD, MPH, FAAP, medical director and chairman, Louisiana EMSC Advisory Board.
