CONVENT – St. James Parish and the Keep St. James Parish Beautiful Board are pleased to announce that they will be hosting their annual Parish-Wide Cleanup Day on Earth Day, April 22, 2023. The event is part of the Keep Louisiana Beautiful Love the Boot Week, which is the state’s largest statewide litter removal and beautification effort.

The event will take place from 8 to 11:30 a.m. and will have two meeting locations. Volunteers can meet on the East Bank at Lutcher Park located at 2601 Lutcher Ave, Lutcher, LA 70071 and on the West Bank at the Vacherie Health Unit located at 29170 Health Unit St, Vacherie, La 70090. Volunteers will be provided with gloves, bags, and safety vests, and will be given an opportunity to help beautify their community by removing litter and debris from roadsides, parks, and other public spaces. Volunteers should plan on wearing close-toes shoes and sunscreen.

“Our annual cleanup event in St. James Parish is something I look forward to every year,” said Parish President Pete Dufresne. “This is an excellent opportunity for our community to come together and make a positive impact in St. James Parish. We encourage everyone to come out and join us on Earth Day to help keep our parish beautiful.”

Ken Guidry, Keep St James Parish Beautiful board chairman, added, “Over the past few years, we have watched this event grow significantly. Every year we pick up over 100 bags of litter, which helps to keep our parish looking its best. By working together, we can make a significant difference in our community and ensure that it remains a beautiful place to live and work. Even if you can’t clean-up on this date we encourage to clean around your home or business during Love the Boot Week.”

Food and refreshments sponsored by Nucor will be available at the Lutcher Park following the clean-up. Nucor will also be hosting a free tree give away for Earth Day. Koch Methanol is also helping sponsor the event and will be providing reusable water bottles and water for participants.
