SCSO announces promotion of Darren Gros to Captain of Training

LULING—Sheriff Champagne announced the recent promotion of Darren Gros to the rank of Captain.
Captain Gros is a 25-year veteran of law enforcement, with 17 of those years are with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office. Captain Gros is currently assigned to the St. Charles Parish Regional P.O.S.T. Academy as the Director of Training.
His previous assignments include Corrections, Patrol, Master Field Training Officer, Investigations, and Training. Captain Gros was previously promoted to Detective in the Criminal Investigations Bureau – Special Operations Division. During Captain Gros’ time in the detective bureau, he was promoted to Detective Sergeant where he served in that capacity for six years. In 2014, Captain Gros was transferred to the Training Division. Captain Gros was later promoted to Lieutenant / Assistant Director of Training where he remained until recently being promoted to Captain in the Training Division. Captain Gros previously served with the agency’s Special Response Team and currently serves on the agency’s Honor Guard. Captain Gros serves on numerous committees within the department and was instrumental in previous years in securing grant funding for agency project purchases, intended to serve the citizens of this parish at no cost to them.
Captain Gros is a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. Captain Gros then received his P.O.S.T. certification from Louisiana State University. Captain Gros has attended numerous training courses and graduated from the National Command and Staff College in 2020, qualifying him in all aspects of his job.
Captain Gros and his wife Katy have two children, Jaxson and Liam.
