On Friday, March 31, Gallot will be at St. Katharine Drexel Preparatory School at 8:15 a.m. before ending the tour with Jefferson Parish Public Schools System at 10 a.m.
The tour is named after Bernetta Ambres who was a district speech therapist, but wore many hats within the St. John Parish School system. Some of these included Founder of Elite Ladies Club, Language Learning Center Coordinator, St. John Special Education Chairperson, National African American Read-In Coordinator and Black History Program Organizer.
Ambres was best known for coordinating annual visits from the president of Grambling State University allowing students to learn more about the virtues of higher education and the benefits of attending Grambling State University. Since 2015, the visits have continued uninterrupted and now bear her name in honor of her commitment to the children of the parish and her beloved Grambling.
Ambes passed in 2018. She was married to her soul mate of 26 years, Kevin Ambres, and resided in LaPlace, Louisiana.
