Sheriff Mike Tregre announced today, March 24, that an arrest has been made in connection to an alleged threat of violence against Emily C. Watkins Elementary School in Reserve.
A 15-year-old male juvenile, a student at the school, was arrested March 24, after suggesting to another student that maybe he would “shoot up the school” after the student criticized the juvenile’s attire, telling the juvenile “he dressed like someone who would shoot up a school.”
When detectives questioned the student who made the threat, the teen told the officers he was just joking. Through investigation, detectives determined he did not have access to any firearms. He was charged with menacing (felony) and released to his mother.
Sheriff Tregre encourages parents to talk to their children about these types of threats. “We take all threats like this very seriously,” Sheriff Tregre said. “I urge parents to speak with their children and explain the seriousness of making comments like this, even in a joking manner.”
