Covington – This morning, shortly after 6:30 a.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 12 near U.S. Hwy 190 in St. Tammany Parish. The crash claimed the life of 23-year-old Zuriel Pryor of Biloxi, Mississippi.
The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as a 2011 Toyota Scion, driven by Pryor, was westbound on Interstate 12. At the same time, a 2017 Ford Fusion was also westbound on Interstate 12 in front of the Toyota. For reasons still under investigation, the Toyota struck the rear of the Ford. After impact, the Toyota traveled off of the roadway to the left and impacted several trees.
Despite being properly restrained, Pryor suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of the Ford was properly restrained and sustained minor injuries. Routine toxicology samples were collected from both drivers and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued or distracted, follow all traffic laws and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
