Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Roland Joseph “Saucisse” Clement was born on September 18, 1928 and was a lifelong resident of LaPlace.  After 94 beautiful years, he passed on into his eternal life on Wednesday, February 8, 2023.

He was the beloved husband of 70 years to Gayle Hahn Clement.  He is survived by his wife and four children, Cornel (Callie), Darnel Usry (Larry), Crystal and Dane (Ann).  His legacy will live on in his grandchildren, Cain and Russ Clement, Kristina Colletta Haydel (Lee) and Zachary and Brennan (Jeni) Clement, as well as his great-grandchildren, Colette Haydel and Jude Clement.  He is also survived by step-grandsons Jeremy and Donald Usry and their families.  He is preceded in death by his parents Emile and Marcelle Millet Clement, brothers Vernon, Guy and baby Claude Clement, and his granddaughter Anna Colletta.

Roland served in the army and had the privilege of playing football, baseball and basketball to entertain and boost morale of his fellow troops.  Sporting events and competitions gave occasions for he and his wife Gayle to travel the United States as he competed in Senior Olympics for many years.  He could be seen practicing throwing horseshoes by those passing by as he fine tuned his skills.

He was proud to be one of the founders of St. John Memorial Gardens, servicing his community’s cemetery needs and memorializing the lives of loved ones.  Roland retired from Dupont after 26 years of working in the maintenance department.

He thoroughly enjoyed a good party and in honor of that, we ask you to join us in the celebration of his life.  Visitation will take place on Monday, February 13, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, 2806 West Airline Highway, LaPlace.  Visitation and Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 529 West 5th Street, LaPlace.  Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 1:00 p.m.  Interment will follow the Mass at St. John Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 2205 West Airline Highway, LaPlace.
