From January 13 – 16, 2023, Upsilon Mu Zeta Chapter carried the Zeta Torch in the River Parishes celebrating the sorority’s founding with community service, entertaining in the River Parishes, and enjoying the history and culture of the various communities for a pleasurable sorority outing.

Service is one of four Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. founding principles. Zeta members attended Sunday worship service, January 15, 2023, at New Wine Christian Fellowship in St. John the Baptist Parish. Upsilon Mu Zeta Chapter donated a supply of handcrafted knitted hats and socks to support Pastors Neil & Angela Bernard’s outreach ministry to the needy.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is celebrated annually on the third Monday of January. Monday, January 16, 2023, Upsilon Mu Zeta Chapter participated in the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Organization of St. Charles Parish’s program. Zeta members were highly visible and very active during the 37th Annual Keeping The Dream Alive King Day program.  Members actively embraced the event by walking in the walk and supported the event as refreshment hosts. A Zeta member, Mrs. Vanora Legaux, whose stage name is “Vanora the Storyteller,” was a program participant.  She entertained the audience with an African storytelling performance called “God is Greater than the King”.  Mrs. Legaux is the Executive Director of The National Association of Black Storytellers and is a nationally renowned storyteller.

Zeta members fellowshipped for Founders’ Day by hosting a virtual movie and game night. Additionally, during the weekend members enjoyed the greater metropolitan area by visiting the Vue Orleans to take in and learn about the culture and traditions of the River Parishes.
