Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The Port of South Louisiana has announced it wants to buy the former Avondale Shipyards for nearly $450 million, to make what its executive director calls, “long term job-creating investments.” But port officials didn’t tell either the Governor or the Port of New Orleans, which covers the area where Avondale sits. And port officials aren’t saying much about how they’d go about cleaning and modernizing the place or what that would cost.

As it turns out, there are actually five separate Port Authorities along the lower Mississippi, each with its own staff, hierarchy and budget. Maybe it’s time to consolidate them…or at least make sure they all keep each other (and the Governor) informed.
